We’re solving for computing systems that minimize environmental impact. Rice engineers push boundaries in the rapidly changing landscapes of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, robotics, and quantum computing. We're developing technologies to tackle complex engineering problems in ways that also reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Future computing labs at Rice incorporate AI and machine learning into their work to find innovative solutions, including AI-assisted drug discovery for biomedicine, computer vision for robotic surgery, and data mining and visualization to gain valuable insights from reams of economic data. The Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Group at Rice, for example, designs autonomous, intelligent machines that can assist people with mobility challenges or build habitats in space.
