Thanh Tran named Technical Fellow at Raytheon

Rice professor in the practice of electrical and computer engineering recognized for dedication to the technology field.

Thanh T. Tran, professor in the practice of electrical and computer engineering at Rice, has been named a Technical Fellow at Raytheon, an RTX Business.

Tran was recognized by the company for his “drive to help others be successful, his dedication to his technology discipline, along with his devotion to continuous improvement in his field of study.”

Tran earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Houston in 2001 and joined the Rice faculty in 2017. He holds 43 granted patents in such fields as high-speed interconnects, personal computer designs, power management, virtual reality, video/audio systems, oil and gas high bitrate telemetry and fiber optic communication.

Before joining Rice and Raytheon, Tran was an engineering technologist at Dell Technologies and Compaq Computer, a chief technical adviser at Halliburton Co. and chief technology officer/senior engineering manager of New Emerging End Equipment in DSP Systems at Texas Instruments.

He is a senior Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers member, has written two books and published more than 25 technical papers. In 2022 he received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers.
