Illya Hicks reelected as INFORMS vice president of education

Rice trustee professor to continue leadership role at leading international association for professionals in operations research.

Illya V. Hicks, trustee professor and chair of computational applied mathematics and operations research (CMOR) at Rice, has been reelected vice president of education for the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).

His second two-year term begins Jan. 1. In 2020, Hicks was named an INFORMS Fellow and the following year he became an INFORMS Minority Issues Forum Fellow.

Hicks joined the Rice faculty in 2007. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in computational and applied mathematics from Rice in 2000. For six years he was a member of the Industrial and Systems Engineering faculty at Texas A&M University. His research interests include combinatorial optimization, integer programming, graph theory, and matroid theory, with applications in social networks, political redistricting, path planning, data science and network design.

With more than 12,500 members from around the world, INFORMS is the leading international association for professionals in operations research, analytics,  management science, economics, behavioral science, statistics, artificial intelligence, data science and applied mathematics.
