An energetic start to 2023

Message from the Dean, March 6, 2023.

With campus life in full swing, Rice Engineering has had an energetic start to 2023. From the launch of REINVENTS, our energy transition and sustainability initiative, to the prestigious awards won by our faculty, I’m more inspired than ever by our gifted community. A community itself that is inspired by the challenges facing humanity.

I’m reminded each day of the critical role engineering plays in the world and how important it is that we develop solutions that place people and the environment at the center. Our three pillars of transformational research – Health and Well-being, Resilient and Adaptive Communities, Energy and Sustainability – are built on the foundations of future computing and advanced materials. These strategic research areas leverage our strengths, location and interdisciplinary culture to solve local and global challenges in an equitable and socially responsible way.

For examples of the impact our award-winning faculty and their talented teams have on some of our most pressing challenges, check out our March 6 newsletter. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll share more stories like these. I hope you enjoy them.

The Message from the Dean of Engineering at Rice University is published quarterly during the academic year, and is shared with our students, faculty, staff and friends.
