For Professional Master's Degree in Engineering
The XTO Energy Inc. Scholarship for Professional Master's in Engineering was established by Mr. Herbert Simons to encourage outstanding engineers from Rice to pursue careers in the oil and gas industry. The student recipient will be awarded a half-tuition scholarship per semester for up to two semesters during which she or he is enrolled in an engineering professional master's program.
To be eligible to receive the XTO Energy Inc. Scholarship a student must:
Be enrolled as a Rice engineering undergraduate, progressing with good standing toward completion of the Bachelor's degree
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a professional master's degree program in the George R. Brown School of Engineering
Plan to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry and
Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States
Preference will be given to students who are from Texas.
To apply, students must submit:
A written statement of goals, no more than 250 words. In the statement, the applicant should address professional and personal goals, motivation for pursuing a professional master's degree in the desired program, the impact this scholarship will have on the applicant's career goals, and the impact his or her experience will have in the oil and gas industry
A résumé showing work experience and accomplishments to date, including honors, awards, published papers and all other information the applicant deems material for consideration
Two letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters should be from a university professor teaching a subject directly related to the oil and gas industry
