George oversees efforts to foster industry collaboration â€“ particularly sponsored research â€“ with the School of Engineering. He also serves as liaison to the Office of Technology Transfer and advises the Dean of Engineering and faculty on research agreements, intellectual property and related matters. George joined the School of Engineering after ten-plus years in private practice as a patent attorney, representing technology companies including Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Xerox, Lenovo, Acer, Amkor and AnologicTech. Prior to practicing law, he worked as an engineer at ExxonMobil and as a manager in private business for several years. Even before joining the Deanâ€™s staff, George was closely affiliated with the university, serving as President of Rice Engineering Alumni (REA) and as a member of the Association of Rice Alumni (ARA) board of directors.
George earned his law degree from Tulane University Law School in 1997 and his bachelorâ€™s and masterâ€™s degrees in electrical engineering from Rice in 1988 and 1991, respectively. As a student at Rice he completed undergraduate and graduate research internships with Lockheed and Argonne National Laboratory.
