The purpose of this award is to recognize engineering faculty who demonstrate excellence in both teaching and research and to encourage all faculty towards excellence in the classroom and the lab. Impact to undergraduate and graduate students for both teaching and research will be examined.
In terms of teaching, metrics will include use of research-based teaching methods, student evaluation and comments, and peer input. In terms of research, metrics will include research funding, impact of journal publication, and contribution to the field. There will be an equal weighting of research and teaching in selection of these awards.
Two awards will be given at the end of each academic year. All engineering faculty will be eligible for this award, although it is expected that tenured and tenure-track faculty will comprise most of the nominations, given the equal balance on teaching and research. For each $10,000 award, $5,000 will be a cash award directly to the faculty member; the remaining $5,000 will be transferred to a D fund of the winner’s preference for use in enhancing teaching and research.
A committee, including faculty within the Dean’s office and other accomplished faculty, will evaluate applications.
Deadline for nominations for 2018 is January 22, 2018. The deadline for completed materials to be submitted is February 19, 2018.
