Rice University’s George R. Brown School of Engineering is top-ranked for its education and research programs. The School of Engineering is a leader in computational science and engineering and simulation and modeling. With pioneering research in nanotechnology, Rice’s School of Engineering has made significant contributions in bioengineering, materials science and energy. Its strengths in information technology include data science, high performance computing, compilers and digital signal processing.
The School of Engineering at Rice Unviersity has a tradition of giving students a sound foundation in the fundamentals of engineering but today, those fundamentals must be augmented by experiential learning and "soft skills." Developing leadership and entrepreneurship skills and ensuring that all our students have internships improves our students' teamwork and communication skills, gives them real engineering experience, and for those who are entrepreneurially inclined, provides the knowledge and resources to turn ideas into startups.
Note: Although we have worked hard to make the School of Engineering advising booklet as accurate as possible, the information in the General Announcements contain the final word on degree requirements and academic regulations at Rice.
