Associate Dean for Research and Innovation
Gan Bao, Ph.D., focuses on empowering school of engineering faculty to excel in scholarship, research and translation to expand the research enterprise. He works with the faculty, vice provost for research, office of technology transfer, communications, industry and foundation relations, and center directors to ensure excellence in research, innovation, entrepreneurship in research, and maximum impact and visibility.
Dr. Bao is the Foyt Family Professor of Bioengineering, professor of chemistry and of materials science and nanoengineering, and CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research at Rice. Before joining the Rice faculty in 2015, Bao had 24 years of experience in research and education as a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University (1991-1999), and Georgia Tech and Emory University (1999-2015), where he was the Robert A. Milton Chair in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering.
