STUDENT LIFE
"The value of something given freely cannot compare to that earned by exertion; hence the value of the Rice Engineering degree."
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Opening doors for women
As dean of the school of engineering at Mississippi State University, Sarah Rajala focuses on engineering education—and making the field more appealing to women.
UNDERGRAD RESEARCH
Mathematical Model of a Single Ventricle Heart
The object of this research was to determine how the abnormal geometry of a a total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) withstands the stresses and strains to which a normal heart is subjected. The TCPC is used in treating some congenital heart defects. The project’s goal was to develop a computational model of the solid mechanics of a single-ventricle heart.
