The biaxial strain bioreactor has been used for many experiments in the past, as it allows a cell culture to be strained in two dimensions, but throughout these experiments, the actual strain pattern has been unknown. This research mapped the strain patterns of the bioreactor in such a way that the experimenter can determine actual strain experienced by the gel, making it possible to validate data generated in past heart valve research and to enhance future studies.
