Thank you for your interest in the graduate programs in engineering at Rice. As Dean of one of the most dynamic engineering schools in the country, I am always ready to listen to our students. Throughout the academic year, I have lunch with both graduate and undergraduate students in order to give them a chance to bring their concerns forward and to allow me to get to know them better. I want to find out how they are doing in their programs and if there is anything the school can do to make our programs better. I also welcome private meetings with students, if needed.
These are just two of the advantages to the engineering program at Rice. Others are our dynamic faculty and their research programs, good financial support for graduate students, and an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration rather than competition. And as a transplant to Houston, I can tell you that the city has much to offer and many of its offerings can be had on a graduate student budget.
Please take a few minutes and read about our Office of Professional Communication and TA Workshops. These programs are supported by my office for the development of our graduate students' skills. Then browse the department web pages for the program that interests you.
I welcome your inquiries into our programs and I wish you luck in finding the one that's just right for you.
